Peter Baynham has been appointed as Mercer’s Head of M&A Consulting for the UK and Ireland. Prior to this appointment, he led Mercer’s private equity M&A team in the UK, and was previously Commercial & Strategic Director with Norwich Union Investment Management (now Morley Fund Managers). He has also held a range of positions with NatWest (RBS) and Price Waterhouse.

Mr Baynham is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and an Associate of the Association of Corporate Treasurers.

Commenting on the current state of the mergers and acquisitions market in the UK, Mr Baynham said: “Most commentators see M&A activity picking up in the UK this year, and foreign buyers may be particularly prevalent if sterling continues to weaken. Time and again, buyers fail to focus on the human capital side of their transactions, assuming it will sort itself out, but the result can often be disappointing. This is an area of due diligence that demands much greater attention”.
